Infidelity and Honesty: Things to Consider when Revealing Infidelity
A lot of people who have gone through affairs have to suffer through choosing between infidelity and honesty — of making the decision of whether or not to tell their partners about their infidelity.
They are faced with making this decision on their own. But is it really just about infidelity and honesty? Or are there more things that you have to think about when it comes to revealing your infidelity to your partner?
There are plenty of things that you have to consider other than just your partner’s reaction about your infidelity, because there could also be serious consequences when you do not tell him or her. When it comes to infidelity and honesty, secrets will surely abound.
Keeping secrets in a relationship have a way of creating suspicion and doubt. Even when your partner doesn’t know the details of what you are hiding, he or she will sense that something is going on and he or she will have a tendency to be suspicious around certain topics of conversation. And whether you are conscious of it or not, you will avoid the topics of infidelity and honesty as well because you are afraid that it will lead to you being found out. All this hiding and avoiding when communicating will only lead to more lies and suspicion in the relationship. And it is actually this strain in your communication that will destroy the trust in the relationship rather than the affair itself, regardless of whether or not the affair is revealed in the first place.
Telling your partner voluntarily about your infidelity rather than having him or her find out from someone else doesn’t mean that it will be easier for him or her, but it does have its advantages. Opening up about your infidelity and honesty allows you to have control over how you are going to say it, what you are going to say and how your partner is going to find out.
You will be able to talk about your infidelity in a way that will let you heal and restore your marriage, rather than destroying it further which is what will probably occur if your partner finds out from someone else. Infidelity and honesty will give you the chance to make your relationship stronger and to bring the two of you closer. It will allow you to see first-hand how your partner will react and to hear what he or she will say about what you did, so you must also be prepared to stay and listen to what your partner has to say about it, no matter how painful it will be to go through.
When it comes to revealing infidelity, think about why, when and how you are going to say it. Be open every possible scenario that could come about. Accept your faults and your consequences in the situation because the only way that you will be able to get through this is to be open to infidelity and honesty, and what it can do to your relationship.
